It is important that you meet your prospective partner prior to training. You need to feel that connection and if you don’t we will help you find the perfect dog.
All Service Dogs must be proficient in both basic and advanced obedience. They must be able to perform all aspects of obedience in any environment such as malls, restaurants, stores, churches, parks and other public areas.
It takes anywhere from 6 months to 2 years to train a Service Dog and that time can vary depending on the needs of the individual. It can cost up to $20,000, depending on the amount and type of training the dog needs.
Here is a list of some of the basic commands our dogs must perform 90% of the time on the first request:
Sit, stay, wait, you last, stand, off, bring, climb, take it, leave it, heel, drop it, sit and down in motion and a recall to sit front.
They must be able to do all of these off leash, with distractions by either verbal commands or with hand signals. They must also perform these requests from their partners as well as trainers.
The same standards apply for all specific tasks needed for the individual client.
The client must be able to demonstrate that they can effectively command the dog and have a good grasp of all of the various training techniques required to maintain the level of service needed. They must also show that they can care for the dog, both physically and financially. Every client must show that they are aware of the local access laws and what behavior is appropriate for their dogs.
A qualified trainer from Yes Dog Yes will conduct monthly visits for the first 6 months and then yearly visits thereafter. We are always available for questions. Situations and needs change and we will always be there to help.
